Summer Lab´12

The second edition of the SUMMER LAB, an “IMAGINE 2020 - Art and Climate Change” project, is organised by the Portuguese partner TRANSFORMA and takes place in Torres Vedras (Portugal), from 5 to 9 of September 2012. It deals with the belief that in response to climate change, in the arts and the larger creative sector as well as in economy an in society, a great transition is needed if we want to achieve a more sustainable and fairer future.

This year’s edition, SUMMER LAB’12, with the theme “ART, CLIMATE CHANGE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”, aims to investigate innovative solutions, alternative scenarios and specific models that can bring together the contemporary artistic production within the local, the national and the international economy, seeking for new projects that share a vision for a low carbon future development of communities.

It brings together artists, scientists and entrepreneurs, national and international, driven by ethics, economy and sustainability questions, which will take the city of Torres Vedras as a place to interact and share their creativity and experience during the discussion and development of concrete projects.

SUMMERLAB’12 IS A CARBON FREE EVENT

IMAGINE 2020

IMAGINE 2020 are eleven European performing arts venues and festivals who support artistic work that explores causes and effects of climate change. Our objectives are to increase awareness among the artistic community and the general public and to provoke change within the cultural sector and beyond.

The IMAGINE 2020 network will also research new ways of producing and presenting exciting artworks with minimal environmental impact, and share its learning in order to get the European cultural sector as a whole to include climate change concerns in their everyday working practice.

The network spreads across nine European countries and brings together eleven diverse, highly motivated and experienced cultural institutions:
